Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

We were creating chances and had them on the back foot, by finally playing the high tempo football passing and running at them football we have come to know, love and expect.

If substitutions had slowed that, even slightly Moyes would have been castigated. He tried to let that flow, we got sucker punched.

Also lets look at some of the options

Noble for Rice (We would have done our fucking collective nuts)

Yarmolenko for Antonio (See above)

Kral for Soucek is the only substitution we would have gone , ok can see this. He looks knackered.

Yeah, replace him with Yarmalenko who is as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
I disagree, the correct thing to do was to replace the players who were clearly fucked......especially after them playing on thursday night aswell

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
Rossal, it's not Moyes fault. At all.

Get over it mate, you win some and lost some. What Moyes did was correct, and it's just knit picking from our fickle fans who expect us to win or draw every game.

Got to say this Peter Banks is one smug, know fuck all tosser of a ref. What a shit performance. The time wasting started in the first half.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
Of course, but it was poor from Moyes

Antonio's lazy fucked half hearted pass was reason we lost possession which lead to the foul for the free kick

Its annoying because we've lost a game we never should have

Block 12:35 Mon Oct 4
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
Rossal, we were undone by a set piece with 10 seconds to go.

we were all over them prior to that. Any sub MIGHT have impacted that.

It's just one of those things, we done it against Leeds the week before, that's football.

We go again.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
Gutted that we lost but if you don't take your chances it nearly always comes back to bite you

Brentford got their tactics spot on and in fairness they could have been out of sight by half time

They had realised that our 2 defensive midfielders Rice and Soucek were tired, so overloaded the midfield and pressed high up the field to stop dour defenders playing the accurate long ball forward

I can understand Moyes not making substitutions in the 2nd half as we were well on top

You can't blame Moyes for our woeful plethora of missed chances against a packed Brentford rearguard, after all

It's easy to say by hindsight, but I would have brought on Diop for Ogbonna early on

It was clear that Ogbonna was having a mare from the start and for the first time in years, getting done for pace by Brentfords fast strikers

I would also have brought on Lanzini for Soucek at half time. I don't know what's happened to Soucek this season, but he was absolutely dead on his feet

He clearly needs a rest

Brentford will upset a few sides this season, no doubt, but they're not all that good, they just got their tactics spot on

We deserved at least a draw and were very unlucky with the late sucker punch

Both goals conceded were down to poor defending

Disappointing but now we need to regroup and move on

Rossal 12:31 Mon Oct 4
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
Why should we have made a sub?

Because Antonio was fucked, Soucek was having a poor game and a few others looked so leggy last 10 mins........including Rice who went down with cramp

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
I find it hard to disagree with those who argue who Moyes could have brought on from the bench particularly if it was to score goals, I had the same question.

We have already determined we should have signed a second striker plus our squad is too small to make an impact in four competitions. I think most agree we need to rotate the squad for fitness reasons so why don't we do that each game?

Perhaps we shouldn't start with Bowen, Fornals, Benrahma and Antonio, maybe just two of them. This surely is the time to give the likes of Vlasic, Lanzini, Yarmalenko and the other new guy a chance. Against Rapid we were struggling in the second half and Fornals made an immediate impact from the bench. Why put all of our eggs in one basket, have some key players up our sleeves if needed?

Secondly I agree with comments about Soucek, not only one of our best players last season but also a key goalscorer. Whatever the reasons Moyes has for allowing Rice more freedom they should not be to the detriment of Soucek. The two of them were brilliant last season, why change it?

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
There's something going on with Soucek, he just doesn't look the same player/

Sajmo1 12:08 Mon Oct 4
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
I think it'd be nice to have a midfielder capable of breaking plays when we need goals. Lanzini for Soucek would be a regular sub for me in games like yesterday's.

Block 12:07 Mon Oct 4
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brentford - Official Match Thread
Why should we have made a sub? We had momentum, we were absolutely dominant and making a sub could well have interrupted that momentum.

We didn't take our chances, and Brentford nicked one at the end from a set piece, these things happen.

Knit picking at it's finest to blame Moyes for not making a change.

Had the same conversation on the train home.

Some bloke said subs were pointless as nobody better to come on. I was flabbergasted.

Vlasic should've come on with 30 to go to replace either Fornals or Benrahma. Yarmalenko should've come on with 20 to go to replace Bowen or whoever was left on out of Fornals / Benrahma. And Kral should've come on for Soucek with 15 to go to who was very leggy.

He said to me but what they do they add over the players coming off. I replied -

Fresh legs
Fresh minds
New ideas
Added impoteous
Ability to drive the ball forward

I mean, as you say, crazy tactics by Brentford coach to bring on fresh legs to try and win the game.

Utter, utter madness from Moyes. Yes, it wasn't our day, chances missed, final ball not great, stifled by shit house tactics that the ref failed to stop.

But surely....SURELY....at some point in that game Moyes has to make some changes.

And that, I am afraid, is, once again, Moyes achilles heel laid out for all to see. He has done fantastic and brought us a competitive edge and a decent squad that has brought some pride back to the supporters. And, he is very good at making subs to protect a lead.

But what he seems unable to do is influence a game when we need something. We hammered them second half but it was obvious the players were also looking at the side-lines for some guidance and some changes. It was like watching a bloke headbutt a brick wall for an hour. At some point someone needs to tell him to stop and do something else. Moyes just sat with his finger up his arse. Seemingly scared to change from Plan A.

And if he makes those changes and we still get beat, then at least he can go home and say to himself "I did all I could". I am afraid, after yesterday, Moyes cannot say that and will be sitting there saying "What if...?"

And what message does this send to Vlasic, Yaram, Lanzini and Kral. All players that could've made a difference. They now take a knock in confidence and wonder how they are going to get a chance. Questioning if the manager trusts them or believes in them.

With 25 to go Moyes could've made a statement. Made a triple substitution and showed everyone....The players, the fans and Brentford that he means business. Thats what influential managers do. They make changes that make statements. Moyes silence yesterday was negligent.

Quality response gph.

COYI... Really; bullying? Why on earth would you be on this site if you didn't either want, or expect to have people take the piss out of you? It is part of WHO culture to rip the shit out of each other. Some do it with humour, some with malice and some because they've fuck all else to do all day. If you don't like it then do the other thing. Please though, don't come on here talking about bullying. It'll just lead to being even more disliked (if that's at all possible right now).

‘ I don’t get the moaning about not making any subs. Arguably only Vlasic could come on and not make us weaker.’

Only Man City and Chelsea and possibly Man U and Liverpool have benches strong enough where they can swap Luke for like in terms of quality. Every other club in the league, assuming they start the game with their strongest team will have players of lesser quality on the bench. I actually think our bench this season is quite strong and considering we were playing Brentford at home and struggling to score, Lanzini, Vlasic or Yarmolenko could have brought something different or at the very least brought fresh legs. Or are we saying none of those 3 are good enough to play against Brentford? If we are saying that then it really is going to be a long hard season for our first 11

Subs can be made for different reasons, because plan A isn’t working, because players are having off days, because players are fucked having played in the EL game on Thursday.

Brentford brought on their THIRD choice striker….you know not as good as their first 2 choices…and he scored the winner…crazy tactics by the Brentford manager bringing on fresh legs to try and win the game!

Bullied?

You've had a thread locked and you're claiming this is proper bullying?

If you get a ban, you'll be claiming post-traumatic stress disorder.

I do care to deny it. Because it wasn't me. As for insulting you.

And it's not gall.

Your online persona has been set up to come accross as smug and self opiniated to illicit responses. COYI lacks class and is totally unself aware.

I really do strongly suspect this is by design and you are a bit of a comedic genius, because if you aren't truly bell ends stand amongst us for games.
